PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT
THERAPY AT MIND + ME
Therapy or Psychotherapy is a general term used to describe the process of talking to a mental health professional in order to resolve current challenges in your life. It is a therapeutic space created for you to explore and better understand your moods, feelings, thoughts and behaviours. Psychotherapy provides you with the guidance and platform to learn more about yourself, take control of your life and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills. Counselling &
Play Therapy
Children are wonderful people and love talking, spending time with others, discovering and learning more about themselves each and every day. However, like adults, children have fears, insecurities and emotions that need to be discussed. At Mind & Me, we provide a safe, secure and inviting environment in which children can trust us enough to express freely their thoughts and feelings.

The Gestalt approach to therapy is integrated and thus the psychologist is able to facilitate the child’s awareness in the “now”. As a result, several languages, games and fantasy methods are used to maintain the present time orientation. Some children are psychologically and emotionally damaged and their normal functioning is seriously hampered. Play therapy uses a variety of techniques that provide an opportunity for the child to communicate emotions, feelings, experiences and behaviour. As counsellors we use their responses in play to intervene and to heal.

Counselling at Mind & Me addresses emotional, behavioral, social and scholastic difficulties. The following concerns are regularly addressed:

-
Children of Divorce
-
Children in Mourning
-
Aggression
-
School refusal
-
Anxiety and depression
-
Low self esteem
-
Friendship and bullying difficulties
Learning Support &
Enhancement
In essence all teaching should aim at providing children with learning support/enhancement so that it is possible for optimal learning to occur. We need to recognise learning diversity and develop an awareness of multiple intelligence's. We need to view learners from an ecosystemic perspective in order to understand learners in a more holistic way.

Mind & Me offers support for children who:

-
Demonstrate attention differences
-
Display emotional and behavioural differences
-
Need facilitation for language, reading, spelling and writing
-
Need assistance in succeeding in Maths
-
General support and assistance in mastering all subject content
-
Identifying possible barriers to learning by conducting full cognitive and academic assessments to ensure targeted intervention and support is provided.
Study Skills
There is no such thing as one successful, ultimate way of studying – each learner has his/her preferences when studying but there are always very helpful hints which can make this process easier and learners must be given the opportunity to be aware of these methods and strategies. Remember that all children have their own unique learning style and preferences and thus our study skills course is tailor made to accommodate these differences.
How is this done?
An initial assessment will establish which methods (mind maps or linear) are best suited for the learner and then appropriate skills and strategies will be introduced to the child. Memory devices will be developed and follow up sessions will ensure that these newly acquired skills are being put into practice.
We pride ourselves in providing children with appropriate life skills and other courses are in the process of development.
COMPASSION IS ONE OF THE FEW THINGS WE CAN PRACTICE THAT WILL BRING HAPPINESS TO OUR LIVES.
